PT MRT Signed Train Procurement Contract

PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) signed rolling stock (train procurement) contract along with Sumitomo Corporation as CP-108 packet tender winner. It was signed by Director of PT MRT Jakarta Dono Boestami, and Representative Director of Sumitomo Corporation Naoki Hidaka and attended by Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama at City Hall.

CP-108 is the finishing step of train procurement. Sumitomo Corporation has been chosen as tender winner of rolling stock for procuring 96 trains on MRT phase I.

" I'm interested to the product that has been tested for dozens even hundreds years, but it doesn't mean I am fan of Japanese products . We want the best not the perfunctory products for Jakarta," said Basuki, Tuesday (3/3).

He added, city budget must be allocated for high quality products which is not easily broken. So, it doesn't spend extra budgets. Even, he expressed that it's  better to buy the expensive and best ones than the cheap ones yet easily broken.

"Citizens could use MRT if it is resolved quickly", he expected.

Meanwhile, the MRT Director Dono Boestami explained, train from Sumitomo Corporation will use Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system.

By this system, the machinist just needs to push the door button and start button to operate the train.

"As we know, Japan is one of advanced technology countries, yet it is the newest technology in the world," he xplained.

Simply known, the train procurement contract value is amounted to 10.9 billions yen, or equal to Rp 145 billions.

Eventually, Sumitomo will procure 16 chains from Japan. One of the chains consisting of 6 trains. Their specification are the Strasya (Standart Urban Railway System for Asia).

"One chain can transport 1,950 passengers at once. It is targeted to transport 173,000 passengers a day." he added.
